Paralympic Blind Soccer
Blind soccer has been part of the Paralympic Games since 2004, but the U.S. has never fielded a team. That will all change in 2028 as the U.S. plays host to the Los Angeles Paralympic Games and receives an automatic entry into the blind soccer competition as the host country.
The women’s side of blind soccer has been growing rapidly in all continents with IBSA scheduled to begin official women’s tournaments in 2022. Women’s blind soccer is currently in the development stages in the Americas and USABA’s goal is to grow the women’s game along with its male counterpart to make early strides in closing the gender gap with existing programs. Females are currently in a combined classification category (B1-B2-B3). With IBSA tournaments opening opportunities for different continents there could be an opportunity to attend IBSA-sanctioned events in 2023 such as the Parapan American Games in Chile, or the 2023 IBSA Blind Football Women’s World Championships in Birmingham, England.
